Hope Ireland invites members of the medical community to a webinar focusing on on the ethical, clinical, and international dimensions of assisted suicide and euthanasia, taking place online Wednesday, October 1st, 2025.

This event, “Do No Harm: Assisted Suicide at our Doorstep”, offers a timely opportunity for healthcare professionals to engage with expert perspectives and evolving international experiences. The forum will explore the potential implications of assisted dying laws on clinical practice, patient care, and professional ethics – with a focus on safeguarding vulnerable individuals and upholding the integrity of medical care.

Professor Des O’Neill

Consultant Geriatrician and Professor of Medical Gerontology at Trinity College Dublin. Prof. O’Neill is a leading authority on ageing, ethics, and the care of older adults, with a distinguished career in both clinical and academic medicine.

Dr Eric Kelleher

Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist at Cork University Hospital. Dr Kelleher specialises in mental health law, capacity assessment, and the ethical challenges at the intersection of psychiatry and end-of-life care.

Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson

One of Britain’s greatest Paralympic athletes, in 2005 Tanni became ‘Dame’ Tanni Grey-Thompson for her services to sport and in 2010 was conferred as Baroness Grey-Thompson, of Eaglescliffe in the County of Durham.

Additional speakers from jurisdictions where assisted suicide legislation has been passed or is in progress will share their experiences, offering insight into the practical realities and unintended consequences of such legislation.
