UK parliament votes in favour of legalising assisted suicide
MPs voted by 314 to 291 to pass Kim Leadbeater’s assisted suicide Bill, allowing it to move on to the House of Lords.
Many MPs, doctors and organisations representing people with disabilities have strongly criticised the Bill, warning of the risks to vulnerable people and the potential for many lives to be lost through assisted suicide. The close margin of the outcome, with just 23 votes separating those in favour and against the Bill, reflected the depth of opposition to the proposals.
